TICKETS REGULATIONS

  • Reduced tickets are available for university students and social card holders with valid student or social cards.
  • The daily ticket is valid until 4:00 AM the following day. After 4:00 AM, passengers must purchase a new ticket.
  • Children under 6 years travel for free.
  • Cypriot soldiers travel for free upon showing their military ID.
  • In case of an audit check, passengers without a valid ticket will be fined on the spot.

UNIVERSITY STUDENT TICKETS

To purchase a university student ticket, students must present a valid student card.

 

No other forms of identification will be accepted.

 

UNIVERSITY STUDENT CARDS ARE ACCEPTED FROM THE FOLLOWING UNIVERSITIES:

  1. University of Cyprus
  2. Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK)
  3. Open University of Cyprus
  4. European University Cyprus
  5. Frederick University
  6. Neapolis University
  7. University of Central Lancashire- Cyprus (UCLAN)
  8. University of Nicosia



All other university students must contact the Cyprus Youth Organisation to obtain the European Youth Card – Student.

Single Journey Paper Ticket

Issued on the bus, always in the presence of the customer, upon payment of the corresponding amount to the driver.

Does not allow transfers.


Validity:

  • Every day between 04:00 – 21:00 at a cost of €2.00
  • Between 21:01 – 03:49, a corresponding night single journey paper ticket is issued at a cost of €3.00
  • Discounted single journey paper tickets are available with a 50% discount

Daily Paper Ticket

Issued on the bus, always in the presence of the customer, upon payment to the driver.

  • Allows unlimited travel within one day for €6.00
  • Discounted daily tickets are available with a 50% discount

Multi-Journey Smart Paper Card

  • Sold on the bus for a limited number of journeys (4 trips) upon payment to the driver.
  • For cards with more journeys (8, 10, 20, 40 trips), visit local sales points.
  • Maximum charge per single journey ticket is €2.00.
  • Automatically converts into a Daily Ticket upon using four single journey tickets.
  • Valid every day and at all service hours.
  • Sold in all districts of Cyprus (Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, and the Free Area of Famagusta), but valid only in the district where it is purchased.
  • The card is valid for 6 months from issuance for the first use. An additional 6 months are provided for using all tickets.
  • No refunds for unused tickets within the specified timeframes.

Anonymous Plastic Smart Cardt

Rechargeable and sold at local sales points for up to €2.00.

Not available for individuals eligible for discounts.

Recharge options:

  1. Period Tickets (7-day or 30-day)
    • Valid from the first use, which must occur within 6 months from purchase.
    • Charges:
      • 7-day: €25.00
      • 30-day: €45.00
    • Valid every day and at all service hours.
    • Each card can hold up to 3 period tickets from any public transport company covering Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Free Famagusta area, and intercity routes.
  2. Electronic Wallet
    • Maximum load amount: €50
    • Deducts the cost of a single journey per validation.
    • Allows up to 2 transfers within 60 minutes from the first validation at no extra charge.
    • No maximum charge limits apply for daily, weekly, or monthly travel when using anonymous plastic cards.

Money or tickets cannot be transferred in case of loss, malfunction, or non-use.

To convert the card into a “Registered” Smart Card, visit a sales office with ID or passport.

For registered cards, in case of loss or malfunction, valid tickets are transferred to a new card with a €2.00 fee for administrative costs.

Users may own more than one Anonymous Plastic Smart Card.

Personalized Plastic Smart Card

Rechargeable and issued for free at local sales points.

Available for individuals eligible for discounts (students, pensioners, etc.).

Requires an ID or passport and, where applicable, a discount entitlement card (e.g., student ID, pensioner card).

  • A photo is taken and printed on the card.

Recharge options:

  1. Period Tickets (7-day, 30-day, or 365-day)
    • Valid from the first use, which must occur within 6 months from purchase.
    • Charges:
      • 7-day: €25.00
      • 30-day: €45.00
      • 365-day: €450.00
    • Each card can hold up to 3 period tickets.

  2. Electronic Wallet
    • Maximum load amount: €50
    • Deducts a single journey fare per validation.
    • Allows up to 2 transfers within 60 minutes at no extra charge.
    • Daily, 7-day, and 30-day fare caps apply automatically nationwide.

  • In case of loss or malfunction, valid tickets are transferred to a new card for a €2.00 fee.
  • No refunds for unused tickets.
  • Users may own only one Personalized Plastic Smart Card.

Nationwide Tickets

Available in all districts of Cyprus (Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Free Famagusta area).

Valid for all districts with the following prices:

  • Daily: €20
  • Weekly: €100
  • Monthly: €300

Discounts & Free Travel

Children:
  • Up to 5 years travel free.
  • 6 to 12 years receive a 50% discount.

Students (13-18 years) & University Students:
  • 50% discount with valid student ID.

Low-income pensioners:
  • Free travel with a Low-Income Pensioner Allowance Card.

Persons with disabilities:
  • Wheelchair users, blind individuals, and their companions travel free.

Soldiers:
  • Free travel with a military ID.

Student Tickets

50% discount on bus fares with the Motion Discounted Personalized Smart Card.

Eligibility:

  • Students enrolled in recognized universities, colleges, or higher education institutions in Cyprus or abroad, regardless of nationality.

Application Process:

  • Apply at E.M.E.L. offices with one of the following:
    1. Student ID from a recognized public or private university in Cyprus.
    2. Student ID from a public higher education school in Cyprus.
    3. European Youth Card for students (issued in Cyprus or any European country).
    • Digital student IDs and digital European Youth Cards are also accepted.

Valid Student ID Requirements:

  •  Recent photo
  •  Name of the educational institution
  • Start and end dates of the academic year

Application Deadline:

  • Until the end of October, registration certificates are accepted.
  • From November onwards, a student ID is required.

Other students should contact the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK), the responsible body for issuing the European Youth Card for students (individuals under 30 years old).

 

School Tickets

The Motion Student Card is issued for free.

Rechargeable with:

  • 1-month pass: €5
  • 1 academic year pass: €30
  •  

Required Documents:

  • ID/passport/birth certificate
  • Official school enrollment certificate for the current academic year
  • Completed Bus Card Application Form
  • School tickets are valid for all routes within the city.
  • In case of loss or malfunction, tickets are transferred to a new card for a €2.00 replacement fee.
  • Special discounts apply for families with multiple children in public education.
  • Free student cards are available for children from low-income families receiving social assistance.
WHEN IS A UNIVERSITY STUDENT CARD VALID

A valid university student card must have:

  • A recent photo of the cardholder. 
  • The name of the issuing University or College.
  • The current academic year’s start and end dates (e.g., 2014 – 2015).
